Celebrations at Stissing Lake House

Stissing Lake House occasionally opens its doors to intimate celebrations — weddings, milestone birthdays, family gatherings, and private retreats. What we offer is not a venue in the traditional sense. It's a rare, private lakefront setting on 11 acres at the base of Stissing Mountain, available to a small number of carefully selected groups each year.

If you're looking for something unhurried, genuinely beautiful, and entirely your own, this may be the place.

What's Possible Here

The property has hosted weddings, anniversary dinners, birthday weekends, and family reunions. It works best for groups who want the feeling of a private estate — not a catering hall — and who are willing to put thought into how they use the space.

The grounds offer several distinct areas that can be used separately or combined:

• The lakefront lawn, with sweeping views of Stissing Lake and Stissing Mountain

• The BBQ terrace strung with lights, home to our large Weber kettle, seats 14

• The garden patio and wraparound porch, each accommodating 6–8

• The main house, which seats up to 14 for a formal dinner or 25 for a relaxed cocktail-style gathering

Live music works beautifully here. For her own wedding weekend, our owner hosted a string quartet from Bard College. Several conservatories in the region can provide classical ensembles, jazz trios, or acoustic performers. A DJ or curated playlist works equally well.

Caterers of your choice are welcome. We're happy to share local recommendations. Hosts may run their own bar. The Hudson Valley Farmers Market, a short drive away, is exceptional for fresh produce. The fire pit makes a natural gathering point after dinner.

Who This Is For

We are selective about the events we host. The right fit is a group that respects a private home, communicates openly about their plans, and understands that the beauty of this place depends on keeping it that way.

We do not host large weddings. We do not make exceptions to our guest count limits. And we ask that all event inquiries come to us directly — not through third-party booking platforms — so we can put the right agreements in place before anything is confirmed.

Event Tiers & Fees

All stays where the primary purpose is a wedding or celebration are subject to our event policy, regardless of guest count or vendor involvement.

Wedding Supplement — Staying Guests Only $2,000 For couples and their staying guests who wish to hold a ceremony or celebration on the property with no outside guests. An event insurance rider and elevated damage deposit are required.

Intimate Celebration — Up to 30 including Outside Guests $3,500 For events welcoming family and friends beyond the staying guest list, up to 30 people. A luxury restroom trailer (contracted directly by you) and event insurance rider are required. Restroom and tent placement must be pre-approved.

Larger Gathering — Up to 50 including Outside Guests $6,500 For events up to 50 outside guests. Requires a luxury restroom trailer, an approved tent (frame or ballast construction only — no lawn staking), a transportation and parking plan, a property monitor, and an event insurance rider. This tier involves meaningful coordination and is priced accordingly.

All event fees are non-refundable upon signing.

Minimum Stay

Peak season (Memorial Day through Labor Day) and holidays: 1 week minimum
Off-season (September through May): 4 nights minimum 

A Few Things to Know

• Direct booking is required for all event stays

• A signed Event Agreement and Release Form is required before any event is confirmed

• All vendors must carry liability insurance naming the property as additional insured

• Amplified music and sound must cease by midnight

• Outside guests are not permitted in the interior of the house — restroom facilities for outside guests are provided via trailer

• On-property parking accommodates approximately 20–25 vehicles; a transportation plan is required for larger events

• China, glassware, and flatware for up to 30 are available upon request
